• 4 years degree course work in Nutrition and Dietetics with any UGC-approved curriculum.
• 6 months of internship in RD-approved hospitals under a RD trainer with detailed course experience as per RD Competency package
• Passed RD Board Examination and acknowledged by RD Board with RD number. This is under Indian Dietetic Association.

Many RDNs hold advanced degrees and some of them hold additional certifications in specialized areas of practice, such as diabetes education, pediatric nutrition or renal nutrition.
