We have never seen a baby with back pain or a toddler complain about tight hips. Pains, aches and ailments seem to occur as a person ages. So, what secret potion do babies and toddlers possess in order to be as resilient as rubber?
Though many factors keep these tiny tots away from pain and aches, few of the regular movements they perform on a day-to-day basis help them remain strong, stable and mobile. Surprisingly, the fitness industry has started incorporating such movements (rocking, crawling or squatting) in their workout regimen as well. The best of this lot is crawling, which is used to treat everything starting right from ADHD treatment to fat burn. ADHD is provoked by quite a few other food factors as well, such as food coloring agents and much more that are discussed at www.firsteatright.com. Crawling is effective on nearly all parts of the body. Individuals often are doubtful on the use of such movements for their physical ailments, but once they start experiencing the positive effect, there is no looking back from thereon. Brains with Brawn Brain development is essential for body movement-the neural system can command the body to do more stuff. Once the body performs more functions, it sends a signal to the brain and this causes the brain to develop more and this brain-body cycle continues throughout the lifetime of the individual. Crawling has a positive effect on the brain as it activates both sides of the brain owing to the need of the limbs on both sides of the body to move together. Information is passed between the two brain hemispheres through the corpus callosum. When there is a need for excess info to be passed through the corpus callosum, extra neural connections are formed, and this appears to enhance learning, coordination and behavior in both kids and adults. Shoulders Adults sit down and work mostly, sit down and travel in a car or sit down in the couch and watch their favorite TV series. Such sedentary lifestyles lead to stiff and painful joints, muscle weakening around those inactive joints and difficulty in stabilizing such muscles. In these cases, other muscles come to the rescue of such muscles to perform the given work. Crawling involves the joints of the shoulders while moving and some amount of pressure is placed on these joints when the upper body is supported against gravity. This pressure helps activate the muscles involved in stability and movement, thereby resulting in more flexibility and less pain. Hand Coordination This part of the body is supplied with a disproportionate supply of nerves compared to the rest of the body. Hands that once chopped woods, dealt with heavy stuff or threaded needles are now used most of the time to type on the keyboard. Manual dexterity is vital for humans and hands play a crucial role in balance while crawling. Pressure is applied on our palm when we crawl on all four’s which provides our body with proprioceptive feedback and this keeps appendages strong and dexterous. Core Body Core body movement involves the anterior/posterior shoulder, hip and trunk. This core body coordination makes sure that overall body movement is synchronized and smooth. Swaying Hips Sitting idly without any movement makes the hip muscles that flex, extend or rotate work improperly. Similar to how a child rocks his/her hips back toward the heels before starting to crawl, when adults too get into the crawl position and do the same, it helps in the mobility of the hips. Not a ‘One Movement Fits All’ Process Crawling is not effective on all individuals. Those with wrist pain, knee pain and other pains that complicate the crawling process should refrain from this activity. Some others might feel it to be embarrassing or inappropriate to perform as adults. It’s ok. Never involve yourself in any activity that does not help you elevate your physical, mental and emotional well-being. Comments are closed.
