For example, if you want to run your nerves instruct your leg muscles to move. Sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body and sciatica is a symptom of some problem with this nerve.
Sciatica is when the sciatic nerve that runs from your hips to the feet is irritated. The sciatic nerve controls muscles in the back of the knee and lower leg and provides feeling to the back of your thigh, a portion of your lower leg and the sole of your foot. If you have sciatica your bottom, back of the legs, feet and toes can cause pain (stabbing, burning or shooting), tingling feeling, numbness or weakness. It is usually only on one side of your body. A cough or sneeze can worsen the pain. Back pain along with these symptoms is common, but not as bad as the pain in your bottom, legs or feet.
