Business travels are one of the most tiresome trips that could be taken with back-to-back meetings, stringent deadlines and extended travel hours. Between all this frenzy, spending time concentrating on healthy foods would be the last priority for these travelers. 1. Never will a bag of potato chips and soda be your breakfast at home. Follow the same at the airport too. You can either bring some fruit or you can be sure of finding at least an apple at the airport. 2. Drink lots of sparkling water, green tea or lime juice during travel or between office meetings to keep you hydrated. 3. Choosing foods during conferences or meetings can be tricky. Seeing your colleagues indulging on a yummy donut or pastry can be inviting and motivate you to grab one quickly. But instead, choose fresh fruits or remember to carry your own trail bar or nutrition mix.
4. Rains outside or hotel rooms with no gym facilities are one of the most common excuses given for missing workout sessions. Whom are you trying to cheat? It’s none other than yourself. Pack a jump rope to do stretches or the best thing is to do pushups inside your room.
5. You may oversleep and miss breakfast due to a late-night meetings or work. Schedule a wakeup call to eat breakfast and ensure that you don’t overeat the next meal.
6. Don’t just settle into a comfortable seat (though it’s hard to find one) at the airport lounge if you arrive early. Use this time to window shop to burn calories and time. Also, try to use the stairs and keep moving around with your baggage as much as possible to burn a few calories.
7. Requesting for low-fat or low-sodium foods in mid-air is not overdoing it. You can request for one, if your airline offers so or bring your own homemade trail mix, fruits or puffed rice to fill your tummy.
8. Don’t drink too much at the country bar with your business associate or in a conference’s happy hour as calories from alcohol consumption add up very quickly. Limit to one drink in case you are a woman and two drinks in case you are a man.
9. Sandwich, burgers or subs ordered for lunch and dinner can be made healthier by choosing whole-wheat breads, more veggies, no added dressings and less mayonnaise. Flavor your bread with simple seasonings like oregano, crushed peppers and chili flakes.
